Barium sulfate is a mineral compound that can be detected by X-rays. The properties of these substances have been used in the production of medical equipment, such as feeding the substance to a patient who is to be photographed by a radiology device. Or the combination of these substances in products such as sterile gases that are used during open abdominal operations (to prevent the devices from remaining inside the abdominal area).

In the manufacture of some polymer products, such as medical tubes that are supposed to remain inside the patient’s body for a long time,  the desired tube inside the body, tubes with barium sulfate line are produced during photography. Because barium sulfate does not have a specific color, the substance is combined with masterbatch (plastic paints are usually blue) to detect the presence of the substance during production.

Due to the small size of the extruder that performs this operation and its connection to the head of the main extruder, it is called a co-extruder. Due to the fact that barium sulfate is a non-polymeric material and its combination with polymers is difficult, and in medical products, there are tubes with very fineness and a thickness of less than 2 mils, which should have an X-ray line on the fibers. The mineral two-component material must be carefully and continuously processed. These extruders are equipped with a feeder for accurate measurement of the supply of materials combined with barium sulfate and prevent the material from burning and play an important role in the accuracy of injecting materials on thin-walled tubes.
